Well, let's see. More than 55 million Americans live in some form of community association. Community association housing has been growing faster than any other form over the last decade. Surveys indicate that most residents are happy with their choice of living in an HOA. More than 1.2 million people volunteer of their personal time to help lead and serve their associations as board members, committee members, etc. And if you don't want to live in one, in the vast majority of this country you can chose not to.
And if you don't like the association concept, then your best bet is to talk with your local government, because they are the ones who are mandating the creation of associations and they are the ones who are most directly benefiting from the process. CAI doesn't create associations and developers don't create associations - in fact, only city and country governments create associations, by making them mandatory in order to build and maintain common elements that would otherwise be a government expense, including roads, steetlights, etc. That enables the government to add new homes to the tax rolls without incurring all of the related expenses.
