It always surprises me that people do not recognize the reason community associations have and continue to be created. In fact, community associations were and continue to be the answer to local governments inability to maintain neighborhood greenbelts and enforce local statutes due to budgetary constraints. More often than not, the local governing authorities either do not or are slow to respond to complaints regarding overgrown lawns, weeds, vehicles parked on lawns or up on blocks, etc. Community associations fill the gap for homeowners that do not want to live that way. It continues to dismay me that anti-HOA folks don't just do themselves (and the rest of us) a favor and live in an area that doesn't have an HOA. Then they can live the way they want. Pretty simple solution, isn't it? But then, what would they find to complain about? There are so many greater things people could achieve with all the time and effort they are using on an issue they don't even need to be involved in! In other words, for all of us that like living in an HOA, because of its advantages and yes, despite its faults: Life is short, make yours worth something by contributing instead of making everyone else as miserable as you obviously are.
